THE SITE: Great views as you walk along the many ridges of the escarpment There is lots of scenic variety along the trail as you traverse the many streams, bridges, woods, meadows and undulations. Take your time and enjoy the many views. One of my favourite hikes formerly known as one of my least favourite hikes when I wasnt in shape.

THE HIKE: Enter the Bruce Trail on the north side of Hockley Road. In just a few hundred metres, the Tom East Side Trail goes straight ahead while the main trail turns left climbing a steep incline to a lookout point. The trail enters a hardwood bush which emerges into a trail corridor parrallel to the Nottawasaga River. The main trail passes the point where the Tom East Side trail rejoins it and continues to the left crossing a branch of the Nottawasaga River on a series of three bridges.

The trail climbs to the top of a hill winding around the ridge as it crosses another stream. At the top of the ridge the Glen Cross Side Trail goes off to the right while the main trail continues to the left winding through wooded hills, crossing a large stream and climbing to the northern part of the park. On the main trail watch for a deep hollow beside the trail known as a dry kettle, left in the glacial moraine by a large melting block of ice centuries ago. Soon the Glen Cross Side Trail returns from the right while the main trail turns left.

A few hundred metres further on the Snell Loop Trail branches off to the left. Follow this loop west taking the left portion of the loop at the Y intersection throught the northern portion of the Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve along the stream valley. The trail follows the stream for bit before it loops around two ponds returning back to the intersection and the main trail.

At the main trail turn right heading east to the intersection with the Glen Cross Side Trail. Take this trail to your left heading south through mixed forest. The trail descends and crosses the river twice. Leaving the river, the trail crosses an open field in the valley before it begins to climb through the forest to rejoin the main trail. Turning left, the main trail once again crosses the river and meets tje Tom East Side Trail. Follow the Tom East Side trail to your left climbing a multi-use trail corridor and following an old driveway. The trail descends through fields affording good views across the valley.before rejoining the main trail again. Keeping to your left returns you to Hockley Road.
Enjoy the hike and the day.
