WAYPOINT-TO-WAYPOINT TRAIL DESCRIPTION
001 - 002
1.5
Head to the far end of the parking lot into the woods where you will find blue trail blazes. Stay on the trail to the right that curves to a stone wall that you can follow to view Eugenia Falls. Returning take the trail up the hill which soon leaves the road and heads through a cedar woods along the edge of Cuckoo Valley. At a Y- intersection, follow the blue blazes up the hill to the left along a grassy pathway and into an open meadow. Continue straight ahead through this meadow. The trails climbs a dirt path up to a pinnacle with a great view of the surrounding area and the Cuckoo Valley ahead and then circles around and heads down the side of the hill through an abandoned apple orchard. The trail arrives at Lower Valley Rd (002).
002 - 003
3.1
Turn left along this road passing a misleading sign and look for a Bruce Trail triangle and turn left into the woods where the blue blazes reappear. After circling around the sides of various hills we arrive at a stile over a fence and the intersection with Hogg’s Falls Loop (b). (003)
003 - 004
4.7
Past the stile the trail heads left (south) towards Hogg’s Falls along the fence past a pile of old logs on the right. The trail crosses an expansive open field across a ridge between a valley on both sides. The trail enters a heavily wooded ridge between two valleys and comes to a stile over the fence. We come to a display map showing the Hogg’s Falls loops (004).
004 - 005
6.4
Soon we arrive at the intersection where loop (b) meets Loop (a) of the Hoggs Falls trail (005).
005 - 006
6.8
Go left up the hill and follow the big loop (b). Passing through the woods the trail crosses three small creeks. Be careful as you step on rocks to cross these creeks as they can be slippery. Past a hill top with an open meadow, the trail heads downhill back into the woods. Skirt around to the right of an open field before heading right and downhill into the woods. The long (b) loop again meets the short (a) loop. Turn left and follow the (a) loop towards Lower Valley Road and the falls. We can soon view Hoggs Falls (006) below from the path above. Descend to view Hoggs Falls.
006 - 007
7.6
Return on the blue marked side trail loop (a) back towards Eugenia Falls. The trail again crosses Lower Valley Rd and heads back into the woods. The trail soon arrives at another intersection with loop (b). Turn left at this intersection and continue on a tractor path that leads into the woods until the trail once again meets Lower Valley Rd (007).
007 - 002
10.6
Turn right on Lower Valley Rd passing the point where the trail goes back into the woods. If you do take this trail back into the woods you will be retracing your route back to Eugenia Falls. Instead, stay on Lower Valley Rd until you reach waypoint (002).
002 - 001
12.1
Turn right leaving the road and continue back along your original path. Near the end you have the option of taking an alternate route as shown on the trail map but the original route along the escarpment edge is much nicer. Soon you arrive back at the Eugenia Falls parking lot (001). Don’t forget to visit the Eugenia Falls Emporium across the street. It’s worth a visit before and after the hike .
