EVENT DETAILS
Let's spend a day exploring the Rouge National Urban Park, Canada's first national park within a city. Located in Scarborough, this urban park is a wildlife and nature refuge right here in our city's "backyard". Starting from Meadowvale Rd. - near the Toronto Zoo - we will hike four different trails alongside the Rouge River and the Little Rouge Creek.

Optional bus transportation from Downtown Toronto (Yonge and Bloor) by private shuttle - shared with other groups - is available. You may also drive or carpool and meet the group at destination. An event fee applies to all participants. See details below.

The hike is challenging with lots of steep hills, so this hike will be for intermediate to advanced-level hikers. Not suitable for first time hikers. We will go at a moderate pace and take small breaks about once an hour. Length: 14 km.

WHAT TO BRING: Water (at least 1.5 L), lunch, snacks, appropriate clothing and footwear, hat, camera, cell phone, cash for bus fare and/or donation to TorontoHiking, enthusiasm.

POST-EVENT: When we return to Toronto, we may head to a Downtown pub or restaurant for a drink and/or a bite to eat (OPTIONAL). Venue to be determined.

WEATHER POLICY: In the event of harsh weather, this hike will be cancelled. The hike leader will monitor the weather forecast and notify all registered members at least 24 hours in advance to confirm or cancel the event.

TOTAL HIKING TIME: 4-5 hours hiking including lunch and stops, depending on overall group pace.

TIMELINE
  • BY BUS: Meet our group at the bus pickup location below NO LATER than 8:30 AM. You will read and sign a waiver form and then board the bus at 8:45 AM. The hike will start when we arrive at Rouge Park, around 10:00 AM. Space on the shuttle bus is LIMITED. Please, register on this site ASAP to secure your spot.
  • BY CAR: Meet our group at the Rouge National Urban Park NO LATER than 10:00 AM. You will read and sign a waiver before the hike begins, around 10:00 AM.

 

GETTING THERE

  • BY BUS: The pickup lacation for our shuttle bus is outside the Toronto Reference Library at 789 Yonge St, Toronto (Yonge & Bloor TTC Station).
  • BY CAR: Meetup our group at destination. Location details/directions will be emailed to you once you sign up on this site.
 

How to find Walter: Look for a TALL, middle-aged man with a backpack and a baseball cap. He will hold up a paper sign that says “Hiking”.
