Today, the Honourable Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance and MPP for Mississauga South, announced $450,000 in provincial funding for Lakeview's Western Pier, located on Mississauga’s southeastern shores. The funding will go towards environmental and structural studies which are prerequisites for preparing the pier for public access.
In 2014, the City of Mississauga completed a feasibility study that mapped out potential access routes to use the 50-year-old Pier, which extends 550 metres into Lake Ontario.
The Western Pier is part of the Lakeview lands, which consist of 245 acres, including a 200-acre brownfield, the former site of Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) Lakeview Generating Station and an industrial area north of the OPG lands. Since 2013, the City of Mississauga, the Province of Ontario and OPG have partnered to develop a shared vision for the Lakeview lands.
