NOTE: Due to recent issues, NO PUBLIC ACCESS is permitted to the base. Visitors are required to stay on the marked trails and to view the falls from the viewing platforms and vista points provide.
Previously we had noted "For the Adventurous Only" on the Albion Falls page, the following information:
Before reaching the road there is a set of stairs heading down but only for a short way. The rest of the descent requires care and a steady foot to navigate the steep trail down to the foot of the falls. However the descent is worthwhile if you are up to it. Huge boulders and rocks some of which have broken loose from the falls line the bottom of the water-bed here. You can walk right up to the bottom of the falls. To return to the crest of the falls, head towards the back of the gorge where the trail is more gradual as it rises to where the stairs begin.
This is no longer allowed.
We received the following notice from Katie Mayne, Environmental Services, City of Hamilton Public Works:
In light of the recent issues at Albion Falls we ask that you remove the information from your website about accessing the base of the falls. There is no public access permitted to the base. Visitors are required to stay on the marked trails and to view the falls from the viewing platforms and vista points provided.
We note that we always had concerns about descending to the base although we had seen this done in the past by many people and families. That is why we labelled it as "For the Adventurous Only" and gave some advice on how to more safely ascend. We recommend that you pay attention to the new notice and refrain from attempting to reach the base of the falls.
Accordingly the base information is now removed from the Albion Falls page.
